• Moodle is a very matured application development framework with 20 years of development, more than 100, 000 official sites and used by large organizations and universities. It is an open-source framework with thousands, if not millions of developers and users using and testing the system rigorously to identify any potential security breach. Any breach will be patched immediate with periodical security update. This will ensure that our application does not have any loophole that can be exploited by hackers.
• We develop our application based on Moodle development best practices to ensure that our application can be upgradable with latest patches. Moodle has a clear upgrade roadmap and by following the best practices, we can make sure that our system will always up-to-date.

3rd party cloud hosting companies have the experiences and resources as network, server and security are their bread and butter. With a fraction of cost, it will clear us from having to deal with network and server security. In addition, our application is HTTPS ready and we will only deploy on HTTPS connection. This ensures that all the communication is encrypted to prevent from eavesdropping.

Furthermore, since we develop the system, we can include additional security measure, if required such as SMS authentication for access to critical area (may incur additional cost from Telco).

In the worst scenario, we can separate the critical components such as gradebook to be hosted locally (i.e. not accessible from Internet) or develop a standalone application for gradebook purpose so that only the authorize users are allowed to have access to the critical part of the system.
